Andrea’s Angle
by Andrea Taylor
I have a trust issue that I can’t believe I’m going to tell you about. After all, who really likes talking about her weaknesses? I sure don’t, but this weakness is heavy on my heart. Sometimes, I don’t trust God. There, I said it. Are you shocked? Let me tell you more.
I have trouble trusting God with my future. That seems silly in light of the fact that God is the Creator of the universe. He’s the One with the plan to give me a hope and a future. He’s the Potter and He knows how to mold me, but sometimes I don’t think about those things. Instead, I focus on what I don’t know and how I can’t control what my future will bring.
Realizing how small I am and how big and important my future is stresses me out, even to the point of tears. However, just before I get to that point, Jesus speaks to me. He says in His still, small voice the same words He said thousands of years ago, “Don’t worry about tomorrow.” That’s it.
Slowly, I give Him control of my feelings about the future because as I get to know Him better, I realize that He’s trustworthy. He can be trusted with everything. Everything includes my heart’s desires.
My God knows that someday I’d love to meet and eventually marry a man after His own heart. My God knows I’d love to serve Him in full-time ministry. My God knows the longings of my heart, and He also knows that right now I can’t see how any of those are possible. But He tells me to trust Him anyway. He doesn’t say, “The future will turn out the way you want.” Instead, He says, “I love you. I know what’s best. You can trust me.”
Even though I focus on my battle and inability to have total control, I can trust Him. A wonderful woman at my church shared why she trusts God by paraphrasing 2 Timothy 1:12. She said, “I know Him, and I’m convinced that He’s able, so I trust Him.”
He’s able to take care of my future. So I’ll trust Him with my hopes and dreams. I hope you will too!
Trusting the One I know,
Andrea
